Chapel

Fellowship

Attend worship and model building positive relationships with others.

Wednesday Night Service

Help with a game, music, crafts or other parts of the Wednesday night “youth group style” chapel service.

Sunday Service

Assist the Chaplain with parts of the worship experience such as greeting, reading scripture, taking prayer requests…

Quilt Coordinator

Help keep an up-to-date inventory of quilts that have been donated and coordinate distribution to new residents.

Encouragement Writer

Send encouragement cards for the Chaplain to distribute.

Events:

  • Host a Teen VBS Wednesday evening during June or July
  • Host the annual Easter Egg scavenger hunt on campus
  • Host a Sunday afternoon fellowship
  • Host a Sunday afternoon workshop (share your hobby or skills)

Facilities

Repairs and Maintenance

Help our buildings look great and function effectively. This includes jobs like painting and repairing a variety of things.

Building and Art

Can you create beautiful and/or useful things through art, woodworking or other skills? We would love to discuss ways you can use these unique skills to inspire and/or support our youth.

Landscaping

Help us have a welcoming and serene campus setting for our youth and other guests. Do you like to mow, plant, trim, rake or do other types of yardwork? You can put that experience to work for our mission.

Development, Administration, Fundraising and Public Relations

Photographer

Help take professional looking pictures at events, for publications we create and other needs.

Video Production

Help us shoot and/or edit professional looking videos to tell stories and say thank you.

Social Media

Do you enjoy Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter? You can help us communicate inspiring stories and news about KyUMH.

Proofreading

Help us review and edit brochures, mailings and other communications we send so that they represent KyUMH and our work in a good light.

Phone Calls

Help make phone calls to inform donors about KyUMH and/or thank them for support.

Appreciation

Join our appreciation team that shows our supporters how grateful we are. This could include creative appreciation like handwritten notes, handmade cards, recognition via social media or other ideas.

Mail Processing

Process postage, sort, and distribute mail.

Filing and Copy Making

Help time-crunched staff make copies and file documents.

Organizing Donated Goods

We receive donations of clothes and other items for our youth. Help organize our "Teen Shop" and display donated items in a way that honors the gift and appeals to the youth that receive it.

Front Desk Hospitality

Be on the front lines of making a good impression to those who call us and visit campus.

Scrapbooker

Help us make special cards for those we serve and those who help to support us.

Independent Living Program (18-21 year olds)

Cleaning and Repair

We LOVE volunteers who like getting their hands dirty. Help create and maintain a facility that glorifies God and that residents love!

Appointment Coordination

Assist in making appointments and coordinating other services for residents.

Life Skills Seminars

Many of our residents need basic life skills to become successful adults. Possibilities include vehicle maintenance, how to plan and cook meals, how to budget, how to care for your health, successful study habits, how to have healthy relationships and more. Let us know your area of experience and we can help design the seminar.

College Prep

Help arrange college tours for residents and mentor them as they go through the application process.

Transportation

Do you have a good driving record and enjoy helping others? You can help our young people with needed transportation to important appointments and other commitments. We also need volunteers who can teach our young adults to drive.

Tutors

Do you have some expertise in a subject area? Many of our residents would like help with classes they struggle in.

Nurse

A nurse would be very helpful to provide advice and mentoring for residents around health issues, especially advising those that are parents with babies.

House Grandparents

These are older adults who devote time weekly to being a loving presence around the cottage with the youth we serve. House Grandparents help our youth heal by showing them the unconditional love of God and modeling how to have healthy, positive relationships.

Volunteer Advisor

Help people discover ways to use their passion and abilities to make a difference in the lives of children, youth and families.

Orientation/Training Specialist

Do you have experience in teaching and training others? Join our team helping to prepare people to serve in our unique ministry setting.

Steps to Volunteer

  1. Contact KyUMH about interest in volunteering. This can be done via call, email or application. You can let us know if you are interested in volunteering as an individual/group with a short-term project/event or a long-term volunteer role.
  2. You will be given a volunteer advisor who is friendly, helpful and ready to help you discover a volunteer need we have that aligns with the time and talents of you and/or your group.
  3. A KyUMH leader will work with you to give you an orientation to the work you will do and any preparation/logistics that can be done beforehand to make the event/project a success.
  4. You use your time and talents to make a difference! A KyUMH leader will be on hand to support you and help in any way needed so that you have a great experience and make an impact.
  5. The week following the event/project, your volunteer advisor will check-in with you to see how your volunteer experience was and what suggestions you have for the future

  2. You will be given a volunteer advisor who is friendly, helpful and ready to help you discover a fulfilling and enjoyable volunteer fit for you.
  3. Your volunteer advisor will assist you in reviewing the diverse volunteer opportunities with KyUMH and will help you choose one to try.
  4. You will be given a helpful orientation of the who, what, when, where, why and how of the volunteer role you have chosen. In some cases, this will include filling out background check paperwork.
  5. Try out that volunteer role for 4 weeks as a “test drive.” If it is not a good fit, no problem! There are many other ways to serve and make a difference.
  6. After 4-6 weeks, your volunteer advisor will check-in with you to see how the volunteer role is going for you. If you are finding it to be a good fit, great! If not, your volunteer advisor will help you find a better fit.
